See how soldiers and civilians lived in the West’s largest Civil War fort right here in San Francisco.
Find out why California was important in the Civil War, and how the fort protected San Francisco. Re-enactors and rangers will give tours, demonstrations, perform stirring flag ceremonies (10 am & 4:30 pm), present exhibits, and provide music of the era.
Civil War Living History Day
Saturday, August 19, 2017 | 10 am to 5 pm
Fort Point | Underneath Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco
FREE – No RSVP or registration required
Schedule: (subject to change)
- Flag raising ceremony at 10 am
- Infantry drills occur every hour on the hour
- Artillery discussions occur every hour on the half hour
- Concurrent demonstrations throughout the day – 1800s medicine, musician, and civilian
- Flag lowering ceremony at 4:30 pm
Fort Point is a National Historic site located in the Presidio under the southern anchorage of the Golden Gate Bridge. Parking is limited. Additional parking is available at the Crissy Field lot near the Warming Hut and on the hill overlooking the fort.
