Free Seasonal Cooking Demo & Tasting | Ferry Plaza Farmers Market

This waterfront market, run by the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture (CUESA), has over 100 food, fruit, and vegetable vendors on Saturdays and the entire Bay as its beautiful backdrop.

The Ferry Plaza Farmers Market operates year-round from 8 am to 2 pm.

On most Saturdays, free cooking demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the white tents in front of the Ferry Building) and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.

Founded in 2014, Thistle Meats is a whole-animal butcher and charcuterie shop that offers an array of house-made sausages, pates, terrines, salumi, and stocks made from locally sourced, sustainably raised animals. “Waste not, want not” is a guiding philosophy at Thistle Meats, which means utilizing every last bit of each animal and bringing transparency to that process.

Extreme interest in local meats brought Ms. Aimee Hunter to Thistle Meats. Recently relocated to the Bay Area after a culinary-filled decade in the lovely New York state. Aimee is engaged in the all aspects of the prepared foods production at Thistle Meats. Her passion for seasonal ingredients, paired with classic techniques, lends itself to a simple yet elegant approach to the final product.

Thistle Meats sources from about a dozen local ranches that maintain a commitment to sustainable and humane husbandry, including Stemple Creek Ranch, True Grass Farms, and Macgruder Ranch. The shop works with whole animals, and employees visit the farms and have close relationships with the ranchers.
