Event Details

Friday Nights at the de Young | Fall 2018

One of San Francisco’s most celebrated after-hours museum events returns for a fall season of 2018.

These nine Friday Nights feature free admission to the main-level galleries highlighted by a reinterpretation of contemporary art in their permanent collection and new acquisitions called Specters of Disruption. In addition, Friday Nights will offer reduced-price tickets of $14 to the exhibition Contemporary Muslim Fashions from 6–8:30 pm.

Through social-media moments and in-person dialogue, visitors can engage and commune with the art and with one another in a warm and welcoming setting. Enjoy specialty drinks and mocktails, coffees, teas, and snacks. Bring your friends. Strike a pose at the selfie wall. Listen to music. Make art. Activities take place from 6–8:30 pm.

Schedule for Friday, August 1, 2014

6 pm Closing Reception: “Monsters and Robots”, by Artist-in-Residence Joshua Margolis – Kimball Education Gallery
Celebrate the residency of July Artist-in-Residence Joshua Margolis and his installation Monsters and Robots. Light refreshments served.

6 pm – Mixed-Media Art-Making Stations – Buchanan Court
Create a mixed-media project inspired by Modernism. Every week, Friday Night at the de Young offers art making to encourage everyone, of all ages, to tap into their creativity.

6 pm – Artist Demonstration: Modern Prints by Calixto Robles and Alexandra Blum – Wilsey Court
Alexandra Blum and Calixto Robles will work with mono-screen printmaking to create multiple-screen images in the modernist spirit of “combines,” using elements of color, found images, and personal iconographies.

6:30 pm – Live Music by Violinjazz – Wilsey Court
Violinjazz is the brainchild of violinist Jeremy Cohen, who also founded the Grammy-nominated Quartet San Francisco.
