Although regular admission prices still apply to visit the museum’s galleries, all of the events below are in the public spaces of the museum are completely free and open to the public

Live music by Moh Alileche’s Ensemble
. In addition to original compositions, Alileche and his band perform reworkings of traditional ancient Amazigh or Berber songs of the Kabylia region of Algeria, mixing instrumentals and vocal numbers on an array of topics. Alileche’s ensemble is: Kevin Cloud, flutist; Bouchaib Abdelhadi, hand drummer; Tim Fuson, bendir (large hand frame drum); John Waller, drum; Sara Salzmann, violin; Omar Mokhtari, banjo and oud. www.flagoffreedom.com

Painting demonstration by Alaagy and screening of Spirit in Color.
Alaagy (Salifu Mohammed) was raised by his grandmother and aunts in a small village in Northern Ghana. Spirit in Color documents Alaagy’s journey from Ghana to contemporary artist in America.  Alaagy’s paintings are full of the indomitable spirit of Africa. Hands-on art making for everyone
, with “art diva” Kim Erickson. Use recycled boxes and wire to create your own version of El Anatsui’s Hovor II, on display in the African art galleries.
