Friday Nights at the de Young | Fall 2018

One of San Francisco’s most celebrated after-hours museum events returns for a fall season of 2018.

These nine Friday Nights feature free admission to the main-level galleries highlighted by a reinterpretation of contemporary art in their permanent collection and new acquisitions called Specters of Disruption. In addition, Friday Nights will offer reduced-price tickets of $14 to the exhibition Contemporary Muslim Fashions from 6–8:30 pm.

Through social-media moments and in-person dialogue, visitors can engage and commune with the art and with one another in a warm and welcoming setting. Enjoy specialty drinks and mocktails, coffees, teas, and snacks. Bring your friends. Strike a pose at the selfie wall. Listen to music. Make art. Activities take place from 6–8:30 pm.

Every week, Friday Nights at the de Young offers art-making activities to encourage everyone of all ages to tap into their creativity.

Create your own mini fashion designs on clothespin “models” using scrap fabric, colored thread, and more!

Meet the Designer Max Gunawan in the de Young Museum Store. Gunawan is a renowned San Francisco-based designer of the international award-winningLumio and Mini-Lumio+, which are best-sellers in the museum store. Gunawan was recently on Shark Tank and has made appearances at other museums such as the Pompidou Center, Paris, MoMA, NY and Red Dot Museum, Singapore among other notable locations.

This magical evening will immerse guests in the rich global influences that inspired Oscar de la Renta’s designs. In Wilsey Court, video and audio will swirl throughout the space with influences from Spain to China, while live performances by Fat Chance Belly Dance and other dance troupes will highlight the evening. A range of international costume pieces will be available for guests to try on and be photographed in against a choice of green screen backgrounds, putting them inside de la Renta’s world.
