Omnivore Books on Food is a teeny Noe Valley bookstore, their shelves packed floor to ceiling with hundreds of new, antiquarian, and collectible titles, on all manner of food and cooking.
The store hosts frequent events including book signings, chef talks, author readings, cooking contests, and food and drink tastings.
Yes, it’s time again for one of the famous food contests, this time celebrating the end of summer fruits that are best sampled in pie. The rules are simple: Bake your best fruit pie, and cut it into as many pieces as possible for everyone to judge.
Anyone not baking pays $5 at the door to sample and judge all the pies, they tally the votes for favorite, and the winner splits the door money with them. There are great runner-up prizes offered from some of our favorite publishers, so get baking.
