The “Godfather” of stencil graffiti commemorates 30 years of creating art on the streets with the launch of his first retrospective and a free book signing at the SFMOMA.

Blek le Rat was one of the first to use stencils to make public street art using icons instead of writing his name. An influence on many of the most celebrated contemporary artists, Banksy once noted, “Every time I think I’ve painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek le Rat has done it as well. Only twenty years earlier. . .”

The Museum Store will have a book signing with Blek le Rat on November 10, 6:30-8pm in the Schwab Room.
