Gold Dust Lounge: Grand Re-Opening Party Weekend | Fisherman’s Wharf

The Gold Dust Lounge is finally reopening. After a bitter landlord/tenant fight, the somewhat historic bar has moved its glittering behind (along with most of the staff and Herb Caen’s bar stool) from Union Square and will be reopening in Fisherman’s Wharf in February of 2013.

There’s two days of opening ceremonies with a private ribbon cutting party on Friday followed by live music and the bar opened to the public – with a second opening party on Saturday that you can RSVP for.

Grand Opening Friday | Gold Dust Lounge: Grand Re-Opening Party Weekend | Fisherman’s Wharf

The Gold Dust Lounge is finally grand reopening, but in a brand new spot moving from its old Union Square location to Fisherman’s Wharf. Starting around 3pm a horse-drawn covered wagon and motorized cable car will lead a procession up Powell Street to the new bar location where they will meet Mayor Ed Lee around 4pm for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Although Friday’s ribbon cutting party at 4pm is sold out, it’s free to watch the parade and starting at 7pm the doors will open to the public with a live roaring ’20s band playing outside and doormen dressed as sheriffs.

Official Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Party (Sold Out)- On Feb. 1, at 4 p.m., Willie Brown will don a cowboy hat, hop into a wagon with western actor and San Francisco native Stuart Whitman, and travel from the old Gold Dust Lounge in Union Square to the new location in Fisherman’s Wharf. They’ll meet the mayor for the ribbon cutting and maybe a beer (that’s just our guess).

At 7 p.m., the doors will open to anyone and everyone who wants to get drunk. There will be a roaring 20s band playing outside the bar, and doormen dressed as sheriffs will greet you upon arrival. Inside, expect to see a Gold Dust Lounge fixture: Johnny Z and the Cameros.
