Presidio Free Programs: Talks, Music & Performances | SF
San Francisco’s tradition of diverse cultural expression started at the Presidio, and continues today with events that enlighten, engage, and entertain, taking place at the Presidio Officers’ Club.
Enjoy topical discussions, live music, dance, and interactive family activities, all free to the public and sponsored by the Presidio Trust, in partnership with cultural institutions from across the Bay Area.
Few people have come to know the Golden Gate Bridge, inside and out, as extensively as Bob David. An architect and photographer, he has spent 41 years working at the bridge, serving for the first 30 years as design director for the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District. He became an informal bridge historian and archivist, documenting various construction projects (such as the re-decking of the 1980s and the current seismic retrofit) with an artist’s eye, capturing the bridge’s vibrant colors and moods with a large-format camera.
David will recount his personal journey uncovering various historical, artistic, and architectural anecdotes about the bridge, some gathered first-hand from its creators when David helped curate the bridge’s 75th anniversary exhibit at the California Historical Society. His lively blend of stories and images will provide a unique perspective on this celebrated San Francisco landmark.
