intoGates.conservatory Grand Reopening of Historic Sunnyside Conservatory | Glen ParkToday is the grand reopening of the historic Sunnyside Conservatory, an official San Francisco Designated Landmark (No. 78). Built in 1898, this Victorian octagon-shaped structure known as the “other conservatory” has just gone through a $4.2 million renovation.

Enjoy a docent-led tour of garden grounds and discover the history behind this enchanting park jewel with do. There will be bagpipes, celtic harp, and strolling troubador music. There will be light refreshments in the rotunda and children’s activities.

The Conservatory, originally built in 1898 by then-owner William Augustus Merralls, an inventor and stargazer, is an octagon-shaped structure that, in its heyday, housed a wide collection of exotic plant and flower species. It was designated an official city landmark in 1975.

Directions: Sunnyside Conservatory is located at 236 Monterey Boulevard, between Baden and Congo streets. The Conservatory is accessible by MUNI via the 23 Monterey line and close to Glen Park BART
