Event Details

On June 21, 2015, San Francisco will launch the Zero Waste Flash Mobs mobilizations around the world leading up to the UN 2015 Paris Climate Change Conference (COP 21).

The San Francisco event will take place at the Presidio Main Parade Grounds during the Off The Grid Picnic to engage the energy of the crowds to impact climate change and empower the public to combat huge environmental issues at a personal level through celebration, dancing and making art.

Over 75 trained dancers and over 200 chorus volunteer dancers will perform a dance and then mobilize the crowds to move 100 Bins (blue, green, black) into aerial art designs. They’ll take videos of the event which will be sent to the United Nations as part of their global public engagement promotion on climate solutions for the COP 21 Climate Conference in Paris November 30 – December 12, 2015.

8,000 visitors are expected at the picnic and the dancers will be able to teach them to join in the performance. Their goal is to have over 1,000 dancing participants on the day of the picnic.

The dancers’ call time is 1 pm. The Flash Mob will take place between 2:30-2:45 pm about 3/4 of the way through the picnic, while everyone is near their own garbage. People are encouraged to post images and info to #ZeroWasteFlashMobs on social media so people can see themselves and their impact.
