Live StorySlam Show: Open-Mic True Tales | Oakland

StorySlam Oakland is a monthly open-mic and featured storytelling event where people tell true personal stories on a different theme each month, held every third Thursday at Sweet Bar Bakery.

Put your name in the hat to tell a true story from your life on the selected theme or just come and listen. They have informal judging and give out informal prizes to the best open-miker and the best overall storyteller. Plus they often give away raffle prizes, just for signing the email list at the show.

Open-mic tellers are chosen at random and get up to 5 minutes to tell their story. Featured storytellers get up to 10 minutes.

Rules: Stories must be true, about your own life, and touch on the theme in some way. A cowbell will sound when you’ve hit the time limit and then you have one minute to wrap it up.

There will be Beer, wine, coffee and tea; seasonal light cuisine available at Sweet Bar Bakery.

Performer lineup includes:

  • Carmen Brito, a survivor from the terrifying Ghost Ship warehouse fire in Oakland;
  • as well as lighter fare from comedic storytellers Sharon Birzer, Sir Remy Martin and Josh Cereghino.
