Event Details

19th Annual Music for People & Thingamajigs Festival

Thingamajigs presents the 2016 edition of the sound-art festival that started it all. A power-pack of musical works of homemade instruments, found objects, and alternate tunings by some of the Bay Area’s most innovative artists.

The 19th Annual MFP&T festival is a step further in Thingamajigs’ search for sounds; as it extends the spirit beyond its artist community. In order to achieve this, the festival will be held over 3 weekends and in different venues around Bay Area.

19th Annual Music for People & Thingamajigs Festival
– Saturdays, October 1 & 8, 2016
– Sunday, October 16, 2016
FREE (Weekend 1 & 2 only); $15 for Weekend 3

Weekend 1Mare Island Preserve, Vallejo, CA – Free

Weekend 2Berkeley Arts Festival – Free – Sold Out
A night of pure rock in alternate tunings. Each act balances experimental and rock idioms, from heavy drone to swirling psychedelia, to give audiences not only a rare glimpse into the often surprising influences and passions of these avant-garde performers, but an experience of the through lines to the work they are more commonly known to create.

Weekend 3Sole Space, Oakland, CA – Tickets
Thingamajigs will kick-off a year-long celebration – Harrison 100/Thingamajigs 20. The commemoration project, in collaboration with various arts organizations will feature commissioned works by a wide range of composers. To start this project, all performances on the last day of 19th Annual MFP&T Festival will be a tribute to the great composer, and based on his lifework.
