National Trails Day: Hillside Natural Area Bio-Blitz Tour | El Cerrito

Celebrate National Trails Day at the Hillside Natural Area in El Cerrito for a fun day of hiking and bio-blitzing. This citizen science project will be a great way to learn about the area’s biodiversity. Experienced local naturalists will lead you around the Hillside’s trails to observe and identify plants and animals using the smartphone app, iNaturalist. No experience necessary.

You will meet at the Hillside Natural Area trail entrance on Schmidt Lane, outside the gates of the El Cerrito Recycling Center. The hike will start at 9:00 am, but please arrive early to sign in. After a quick orientation at the top of the hillside, you will break off into groups and explore the trails using iNat. At the very end, the groups will come back together and debrief all the biodiversity that you observed and the importance of citizen science projects and stewardship. Space is limited so register today for a fun-filled day of hiking and nature.

Bring:

• a charged smartphone with the iNaturalist app downloaded
  sunscreen and a hat
• water
• snacks

Free but an RSVP is required.
