Event Details

How have neon signs influenced the landscape of your city? How does a unique neon sign evolve from advertising to art? Join them for an afternoon exploring these questions with San Francisco Neon authors Al Barna and Randall Ann Homan plus special guest speaker Avery Trufelman of 99 Percent Invisible (Radiotopia/KALW).

Listen to Avery’s podcast called “Tube Benders”, a deep dive into the topic of neon signs, featuring SF Neon Walking Tours. Avery is one of the many talented audio producers at 99pi.org, a radio station about architecture, design and the 99% of the designed world that are often take for granted.

Schedule:

2:00 pm: Neon short film and all speakers
2:50 pm: Book signing of San Francisco Neon
3:15 pm: Screening a vintage noir film featuring neon-laden streets of San Francisco
Bonus: Attendees will receive a copy of the 40-page Neon Icons exhibit catalog, while supplies last. Generously printed by SFPL.
