POSTPONED: Nerd Nite: Geeky Lectures in a Rock Club (Rickshaw Stop)

Starting in July 2022 we don’t see any more events on their calendar. Hopefully Nerd Nite will be back, soon!

What happens when geeks take over a rock club for an evening of drinking and presentations? Find out at Nerd Nite, a monthly lecture-in-a-bar series.

They get smart and interesting people, give them lots of free drinks, and put them on stage in front of a couple hundred tipsy nerds. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s salacious, and it’s always nerdy.

Nerd Nite
Every third Wednesday | Doors at 7 pm; Show at 8 pm
Rickshaw Stop | 155 Fell Street, San Francisco
$15 | All Ages

Nerd Nite resumed in San Francisco on July 21, 2021

Schizophrenia, Blood & Sewers | POSTPONED: Nerd Nite: Geeky Lectures in a Rock Club (Rickshaw Stop)
  • “The Slow Death of the Muse: A History of Schizophrenia & Hearing Voices” by Patrick House
Did humans 10,000 years ago stub their toes? Did they break their arms? Of course. But did they have schizophrenia? That’s trickier. Are some mental illnesses a necessary disease of humanness, or exclusively a modern disease?
  • “Breaking the Blood Bank: The Path Toward Universal Blood” by Ahnika Kline
About to have surgery and anxious that the docs have a little extra on hand? Hey–wouldn’t it be nice to know what’s in that blood stuff, anyway? Learn about what happens to blood after donation, and the future of synthetic blood.
  • “Combined Sewerage: Where the **** Hits the Fan” by Karen Kubick
Every day in San Francisco, hundreds of thousands of toilets are a-flushing, showers a-flowing, and washing machines a-spinning. That’s a whole lotta water and a whole lotta flow, but where, oh where, does that water go?

That’s not all: Get your cookies. Tis the season for giving, and for sugary treats! Health Initiatives for Youth (HIFY) is having a bake sale and raffle at this week’s Nerd Nite.
