Event Details

Join the Ella Baker Center on Tuesday, August 4th for our Night Out for Safety and Liberation at Oakland’s Lake Merritt Amphitheater. Our free program will include activities for kids, collaborative art-making, music and dance performances, and food. We will also honor victims and survivors of police violence.

Traditionally, National Night Out events focus on community-police relations and neighborhood watch programs, but we know that #SafetyIs about more than policing and crime.

#SafetyIs being able to walk down your street without being harassed by police. #SafetyIs having a living wage job. #SafetyIs schools that protect and empower children.

Night Out for Safety and Liberation is a nationwide action to reimagine and redefine what public safety means for our communities.

Posters that you can bring to your own neighborhood National Night Out event will also be available.

Join us on August 4th and help us start a different conversation about public safety—one that is focused on how we can build equality, power, and opportunity in our communities.

Easily accessible by BART and AC Transit. ADA accessible.
