Original Famous Twang Sundays is a free, all-ages concert series at Thee Parkside in Potrero Hill.
Come by every Sunday; there’s always a fresh traditional or contemporary live act and a surprise special to purchase from the kitchen.
Sunday, May 24th Original Famous Twang Sundays welcomes Dear County and Porkchop Express to Thee Parkside.
Dear County met when they were practically kids then met again many moons later for the sake of love and country. Started off playing just the two of them and now they’re joined by friends Mike Smartt, Nelson Saarni, and Julia Napier.
Porkchop Express is a San Francisco Bay Area alt country band that has been playing together since 2002. They take the gristly scraps from the American traditions of folk, outlaw country, and rock ‘n roll, push it through a meat grinder, and roll the whole mess on a sawdust floored honky-tonk. Their sound is made up of sweet vocal harmonies; a hard-driving rhythm section; blistering guitars; spacey lap-steel; and an ukulele for that extra dash of machismo. The end result has been called “Country music for folks who don’t like country music.” The guys think that everyone likes country music, they just haven’t heard the right kind yet.
