“Outpost” Market Street Workshops, Discussions & Film Fest | Central Market

Building on the success of the Market Street Prototyping Festival held last spring, the Central Market Showcase will bring back a collection of projects for one month that tests ideas for improving San Francisco’s main thoroughfare.

Believing that artists and designers can be provocative agents in helping us to reimagine our cities, the Studio for Urban Projects has created Outpost as a way of helping us to claim Market Street in this crucial moment. It will be a place to enjoy a meal, talk with your neighbors, relax and give our city planners feedback that will shape the future of Market Street.

Saturday, October 17
2:00-5:00 pm
Create with Nature Zone
Curated by the Studio for Urban Projects in collaboration with the Children in Nature Collaborative
Central Market is home to one of San Francisco’s densest neighborhoods, with an estimated 4,000 children and some of the least access to open space. In addition to the Wednesday program, this week we will host a Create with Nature Zone on Saturday. For one day, the Children in Nature Collaborative will transform Market Street into a natural play space for children, parents and friends. This event is produced in collaboration with the Children in Nature Collaborative.

6:30 pm
Predator Songstress: Reclaiming Stolen Voice
Curated by Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
YBCA partners with the Central City SRO Collaborative, an organization dedicated to the social, economic, and political advocacy and empowerment of low-income, residential hotel tenants who live in the Tenderloin and South of Market (SOMA) Districts of San Francisco and Degenerate Art Ensemble which makes performance inspired by punk, comics, cinema, nightmares and fairy tales to create a workshop focusing on storytelling, interview techniques, body language and communication.
