2015 “Alice in Wonderland” Victorian Picnic
Saturday, August 1, 2015 | 10 am to 4:30 pm
Lincoln Park, 1450 High St, Alameda
FREE

In 2015, suggested costume for the event is Mid-Victorian summer afternoon dress (1862 – 1880) or costumes inspired by Alice in Wonderland or Through the Looking Glass, but, as usual, costumes are admired, but not required. Pre-Raphaelite, Aesthetic, and Romantic costume is also welcome. But, whatever you wear, be certain to wear sturdy shoes, boots, or that you can dance out-of-doors in.

To protect your complexion, hats or bonnets, parasols, and sunscreen are highly recommended, and you may even want to bring a shawl to protect you against the changeable climate of beautiful Alameda. Besides lunching and dancing, the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter will host a croquet game.

Picnicking starts at 10 am, and from 1-4:30 pm, the celebrated Bangers & Mash band plays an afternoon of late Victorian dance music, including a variety of waltzes and occasional polkas, schottisches, mazurka waltzes, a Lancers and the much easier Lobster Quadrille, and other popular set dances. As usual, all set dances will be briefly taught or called.

This fun day is organized by PEERS (Period Events & Entertainments Re-Creation Society).
