Event Details

Experience weekend adventures exploring the Presidio’s great outdoors led by park natural resources staff. Walks are moderately strenuous and begin and end at the Presidio Officers’ Club Nature Lab Exhibition.

The world was introduced to the monarch butterfly 200 years ago (October 1816). A specimen was collected on the Presidio by a famous scientific and art expedition that also described the California poppy.

Each fall they welcome monarch butterflies back to the California coast, and are very excited that they still return to an overwintering site on the Presidio. Join them as they learn about the monarch butterfly, their efforts to make this an even better haven for butterflies, and what neighbors can do to help.
