Event Details

“But what do you see in this place?” Members of the East Bay Landscape Painters encountered this question often, once they began painting the welcoming neighborhoods in San Pablo and Richmond where many immigrants live.

The show, titled “Immigrant Neighborhoods,” features local artists Rebeca Garcia-Gonzalez, Marilyn Hill, Larry Hatfield, Fran Osborne and Karen Zullo Sherr. Everyone is invited to the reception on Saturday, February 26, from 1 to 3 PM.

Beauty is sometimes right in front of us, and urban locations have been source material for artists for centuries. It is not surprising then that East Bay Landscape Painters has chosen to paint the neighborhoods of immigrants, of those who have been there for generations as well as more recent ones. The painters believe strong cultural identities, assimilation, and differing ethnicities and backgrounds mingle in such places, creating a vibrant street life and surroundings.
