In conjunction with the exhibition Hidden Meaning: Symbolism in Chinese Art, now on view at San Francisco International Airport, Terese Tse Bartholomew, Curator Emeritus of Himalayan Art and Chinese Decorative Art, Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, will present a lecture Hidden Meaning in Chinese Art.

The lecture will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at the San Francisco Airport Commission Aviation Library & Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum located in the International Terminal Main Hall, Departures Level.

This illustrated lecture will explore the following topics:
Can decorative objects increase one’s wealth, happiness, or longevity?
Traditionally, many Chinese have believed that they could—as long
as they included the appropriate auspicious symbols. This talk will give a thorough guide to such symbols.

Get Behind the Scenes at SFO: A tour of the exhibition lead by curator Terese Tse Bartholomew will follow the lecture. This exhibition is beyond the security checkpoint so RSVP is required for the tour. Exhibition tour slots are available on a first come first serve basis, with a maximum of fifty participants allowed. RSVP is not necessary for the lecture.
