Sea Lion Center: Grand Opening of Free Nature Center | Pier 39

Celebrate the Grand Opening of the Sea Lion Center, a brand new, free attraction at Pier 39 opening on Friday, January 17, 2014.

Operated and managed by Aquarium of the Bay, the Sea Lion Center is a free nature center where guests can learn all about the world-famous sea lions that live on Pier 39’s K-Dock. Touch a sea lion pelt, size yourself up next to a real sea lion skeleton, and more. Once you get to know the California sea lions, step outside to the K-Dock overlook and see (and smell) them for yourself.

The Sea Lion Center is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm.

Grand Opening & Sea Lion Encounter Tours

The Grand Opening of the Sea Lion Center will be celebrated alongside of Sea Lion Encounter, a four-day event commemorating the 24th anniversary of the sea lions arrival to Pier 39.

Naturalists from Aquarium of the Bay and the Sea Lion Center will meet guests at the Sea Lion Statue near the Pier 39 entrance plaza. The tours will commence down ‘Sea Lion Way’ to Pier 39’s K-Dock, where the sea lions reside, before ending with a tour of the new Sea Lion Center. Tour participants will also be able to partake in complimentary cookies and beverages at Neptune’s, overlooking the sea lions. Tours will occur every hour on the hour from 12 pm-4 pm throughout the weekend.
