Event Details

The Public Safety & Neighborhood Services Committee of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors is holding its regular meeting on Wednesday, October 11 at City Hall, Room 263.

The SF Board of Supervisors is considering a proposed ordinance by Supervisor Norman Yee to ban delivery robots from city sidewalks.

The hearing starts at 10:00 and the delivery robot discussion is item #2 on the agenda.

RSVP for Hearing on Delivery Robot Ban support for the ban is organized by Walk SF

Love Robots? Yelp Says…
if you place an order to the Yelp Eat24 app or Eat24.com from restaurants including DOSA on Valencia, Truly Mediterranean, Aslam’s Rasoi, or Alhamra, your delivery might be coming from a robot.

How does it work, exactly? After an order is placed from one of these participating restaurants, diners receive a text message asking if they are willing to accept the delivery from a robot. If they say yes, one of the robots will pick up the order from the restaurant and make its way to the diner. When the robot is close, the diner will receive a text message with a code to unlock the cargo bin, and voila! Delicious food delivered via robot.

Hate Robots? WalkSF Says…
Save Our Sidewalks – Sidewalks are the only dedicated space that is solely for people walking — and it should stay that way.

You already have to dodge vehicles when crossing the street; public sidewalks should be free from dangerous obstructions. Worse yet, in many places in the city, sidewalks aren’t even wide enough to fit everyone currently.

Now, companies are starting to operate delivery vehicles on San Francisco’s already crowded sidewalks. These delivery robots clog sidewalks, block curb ramps and create hazards for children, seniors, and people with disabilities.
