Reel San Francisco Stories with guest speaker: Christopher Pollock on Tuesday, July 29
Have you ever wondered whether a movie you were watching was filmed in San Francisco or the Bay Area? Christopher Pollock will use a broad cross-section offilm genres to explore the role of film as an unintended but fortunate benefit to the preservation community. He will talk about how some on-location movies have become a record of places that have disappeared due to development, neglect, demolition, fire, and other reasons. In a few cases these are the only preserved images, which give a more three-dimensional view than that of a static photograph.
Chris’s new book, Reel San Francisco Stories: An Annotated Filmography of the Bay Area, lists more than 600 movies, from blockbusters to lesser-known indies entirely or partially set in the Bay Area since 1927. Books will be available for sale and signing.
