Put your Beliefs into Action!
Join us as we answer the call from The Movement for Black Lives for a Day of Action on August 19.
We’ll will meet at Justin Herman Plaza, a location that represents the presence of white supremacy in our daily lives here is San Francisco. At this gathering we will form a “human billboard” in this prominent spot, hold signs, and rally to make visible our rejection of white supremacy and our support for the Movement for Black Lives. More details to come!
Why Justin Herman Plaza? As executive director of the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency, Justin Herman was responsible for the demolition of almost the entire Fillmore district in the 1950’s and 60’s. Leading to the eviction of 461 Black-owned businesses and the displacement of thousands of African-Americans, these actions built on Herman’s history of segregation policies as Head of the Housing and Home Finance Agency. Justin Herman Plaza stands as a daily reminder of white supremacy in San Francisco. City residents are calling on the city to rename the plaza.
