Event Details

It is now known that the fire hydrants at Hayes and Buchanan, and Ellis and Van Ness, were equal to the actions of the Gold Hydrant well known for stopping the 1906 fire from going deeper into the Mission District.

At 10 am on April 17, 2016 these two hydrants will be painted silver in long overdue ceremonies to honor the contributions of the “Silver Twins” in stopping the now famous “Ham & Egg” fire in the Western Addition.

The Gold Fire Hydrant will be painted and commemorated in the annual ceremony at 5:30 am on April 18, 2016. Since 1969, the citizens of San Francisco have gathered at this hydrant each year early on the morning of April 18 to honor “The Little Giant” by retelling its story and painting it gold.
