Dance Series 01 kicks off with Michael Smuin’s joyful tribute to Ol’ Blue Eyes, Fly Me to the Moon.This blend of ballet and popular dance is the embodiment of the smooth and stylish melodies that have inspired generations, including Sinatra’s renditions of “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” and “The Lady is a Tramp.” Performed against the twinkling backdrop of a glowing night sky, the ballet highlights all the warm and witty favorites, culminating in a full chorus, high-kicking “New York, New York.”

Also on this triple-bill: Smuin is thrilled to present the regional premiere of Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s critically lauded and transcendent piece Requiem for a Rose, set to what many consider to be Schubert’s most romantic string adagio, from the Quintet in C. Ochoa is a nationally acclaimed choreographer who both choreographs contemporary dance works and adapts her style for classical ballet companies. Requiem for a Rose offers “deftly and honestly crafted” movement in”lush, fluid combinations swirling about the stage” (DanceViewTimes).
