Event Details

Freespace Pop-Up Community Center

Freespace is a pop-up community center focused on hacking the civic experience. It is hosted in a 14,000 sqft warehouse in S0Ma, San Francisco, envisioned and implemented entirely by you.

Freespace was originally just a one month project, but it was extended to two months thanks to successful Indiegogo campaign. They’re now open periodically (check their schedule). They host a wide array of events and projects like classes, music, art, silent discos, yoga, a free bikeshare, community engagement and field trips, and more than a few silly costumes.

Step into a pseudo soundproof glass box with a stranger or two and observe the rhythm of the streets of San Francisco dancin’ to the different soundtracks that will be provided for you.

They’ll be playin’ some jazz… perhaps the people look like they’re walkin to the beats?
They’ll be playin’ some classical… perhaps folks seem like they’re striding more gracefully?
They’ll be playin’ some romantic tunes… perhaps you start to focus on the couples?
They’ll be playin’ some melancholic sounds… perhaps you start to see the sadness in the public faces?

Or… it’s up to you. You get to create your experience… they just provide the soundtrack.

Please note, we’re guessing lots of folks will want to get into the glass box, so we recommend getting there early for your chance to experience it.
