SoundWaves: Live Afro-Latin Funk at the Waterfront | Jack London Sq.

The Soundwaves music series returns to Jack London Square with free live music on the Oakland waterfront. Locals and visitors are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chair for this festive afternoon of fabulous music including high-energy blues and bluegrass from Dirty Cello, Afro-Latin funk from Sang Matiz, and jazz hip hop funk from Kev Choice.

Musicgoers are invited to shop the farmer’s market and grab a late lunch at one of Jack London Square’s delicious waterfront restaurants before Soundwaves to make a day of the event.

• October 2 – Dirty Cello  
  From China to Italy, and all over the U.S., Dirty Cello brings the world a high energy and unique spin on blues and bluegrass. Led by vivacious cross-over cellist, Rebecca Roudman, Dirty Cello is cello like you’ve never heard before. From down home blues with a wailing cello to virtuosic stompin’ bluegrass, Dirty Cello is a band that gets your heart thumping and your toes tapping.
• October 9 – Sang Matiz
  Sang Matiz has been performing for 7 years, fusing World and Afro-Brazilian/Peruvian beats with contemporary rhythms such as Pop, Jazz, and Funk.
• October 16 – Kev Choice
  Pianist. Emcee. Producer. Bandleader. Sideman. Music historian. Kev Choice wears many hats, and all of them fit. Blessed with prodigious talent, plus the skill and dedication to his craft to pull it off, the Oakland-based artist is redefining what it means to be a musician in this day and age. Not too many classically-trained pianists who hold Master’s degrees in jazz can rock microphones with blazing-hot 16s.
