StorySlam’s True Live Storytelling Competition | Oakland

Come put your name in the hat for a chance to tell your true, personal story (5 min or less). Or you can just come and listen. They have informal judging and give out informal prizes to the best open-mic tale, and the best overall storyteller. Plus they often give away raffle prizes, just for signing up for the email list at the show.

Open-mic tellers are chosen at random and get up to 5 minutes to tell their story. Featured storytellers get up to 10 minutes.

StorySlam’s True Live Storytelling Competition
Every Third Thursday | 7 to 9:15 pm
Sweet Bar Bakery, 2355 Broadway, Oakland
$5, sliding scale donation of $5-$20

In April, their show falls aptly on 4/20. Any story is allowed as long as it’s about drugs, true, is about the speaker’s own life and five minutes or less. Stories can be about any aspect of drugs — from kicking the habit to experiencing a new drug — no matter what kind. They want to hear your true drug story.

They also give out raffle prizes to the audience. The raffle is free to enter. Last April at their Drugs show, they even gave away some live seedlings.
