Event Details

Manna Gallery is pleased to present “Street Flowers”, a collection of charcoal and mixed media drawings by Emily Farish. This exhibition opens Friday, July 3 and continues to August 8. A reception for Emily will take place Saturday, July 11, from 2 to 4 pm, when she will be available to meet gallery visitors. The gallery is open Fridays and Saturdays 12 to 5 pm.

Emily says, “I record the passage of time. The flowers, taped to the wall and devoid of nourishment, are markers of time as they begin to rumple and wilt. The wall surrounding the flowers also contains fragments of time – cracks in the plaster, old staples, forgotten nails and paint splatters…I also love spending time with flowers because they have nothing to do with the latest and greatest technology. They simply just don’t care.”

Emily Farish has lived in the Bay Area all of her adult life and has had a studio in Oakland for the past eight years. Her daily rituals include three cups of green tea every morning and a glass of pinot noir at sunset. She is constantly awed and amazed by the diversity of plant life in this area and thinks it is a magical place to be.
