“Sunday Assembly” Silicon Valley Community Gathering | Mountain View

Live Better, Help Often, Wonder More” is the motto for Sunday Assembly Silicon Valley (SASV), an international community movement that celebrates life. The radically inclusive SASV is a secular and service nonprofit that celebrates life, welcomes all people and supports everyone fulfilling their potential.

It aims to help people “live better” with inspiring, thought-provoking and practical ideas that help people lead the lives they want; “help often” by encouraging community action and lives of purpose; and, “wonder more” with talks, singing as one, readings and games to connect with each other and world. Most of all, have fun, be nice and join in.

Monthly meetings feature live pop music, TED-style talks, inspirational stories, socializing over coffee and cake and activities for children. SASV focuses on purpose and action. It supports local nonprofits through hands-on help and donations. The organization offers “smoups,” small activity groups that gather around member interests, including outdoor activities, book reading, crafts, self-improvement and beer tasting. On site parking is free.

Are you too hard on yourself when you make a mistake? Try a little tenderness and embrace the oops at the May program for Sunday Assembly Silicon Valley, featuring Psychologist Marilin Colón’s talk, “On Being Wrong.” She will address the psychological process behind making mistakes and how people can learn to like being wrong. A behavioral analyst at Understanding Behavior, Inc., Colón works in early intervention treatment of children with developmental delays. She is a member of the California Association for Behavior Analysis and the Association for Behavior Analysis International.

The morning will be filled with “live better” elements:

  • find out about the great speakers at “A Conference Called Wonder,” sponsored by Sunday Assembly International in Atlanta, May 29-31;
  • join in the sing-along to the popular songs, “Shake It Off,” “I Will Survive,” “Help,” and “Don’t Stop”;
  • make bright paper flowers and origami for Mother’s Day with SASV kids.

After the assembly, coffee, tea and treats are served. Some congregants will be walking over to the neighborhood eateries for lunch.
