“Sunday Assembly” Silicon Valley Community Gathering | Mountain View

Live Better, Help Often, Wonder More” is the motto for Sunday Assembly Silicon Valley (SASV), an international community movement that celebrates life. The radically inclusive SASV is a secular and service nonprofit that celebrates life, welcomes all people and supports everyone fulfilling their potential.

It aims to help people “live better” with inspiring, thought-provoking and practical ideas that help people lead the lives they want; “help often” by encouraging community action and lives of purpose; and, “wonder more” with talks, singing as one, readings and games to connect with each other and world. Most of all, have fun, be nice and join in.

Monthly meetings feature live pop music, TED-style talks, inspirational stories, socializing over coffee and cake and activities for children. SASV focuses on purpose and action. It supports local nonprofits through hands-on help and donations. The organization offers “smoups,” small activity groups that gather around member interests, including outdoor activities, book reading, crafts, self-improvement and beer tasting. On site parking is free.

What does a well-liked Pentecostal minister in the Deep South do after he discovers he’s an atheist, is shunned by his community, loses his job, much of his family, and his earthly possessions? Jerry DeWitt turned to his belief in the power of community and remained in the Bible Belt to build a community from scratch as a secular minister. Author of the book “Hope After Faith”, DeWitt will share the lessons about vibrant and healthy communities, learned from his start-up story in his talk, “Crowdsourcing Community – What’s Next?”

DeWitt is founder of the Community Mission Chapel in Lake Charles, Louisiana and is a leader in America’s fast-growing secular movement. He sits on the board of Foundation Beyond Belief, a nonprofit organization that focuses humanist generosity and compasssion through financial gifts, supporting community improvement teams, providing disaster recovery, and a service corps.

The SASV community welcomes everyone to the February program of readings, Doing My Best stories, a pop-song sing-along with the Lovely Hearts Club Band, children’s activities and after-program socializing with tea and cake, coffee and cookies.
