“Sunday Assembly” Silicon Valley Community Gathering | Mountain View

Live Better, Help Often, Wonder More” is the motto for Sunday Assembly Silicon Valley (SASV), an international community movement that celebrates life. The radically inclusive SASV is a secular and service nonprofit that celebrates life, welcomes all people and supports everyone fulfilling their potential.

It aims to help people “live better” with inspiring, thought-provoking and practical ideas that help people lead the lives they want; “help often” by encouraging community action and lives of purpose; and, “wonder more” with talks, singing as one, readings and games to connect with each other and world. Most of all, have fun, be nice and join in.

Monthly meetings feature live pop music, TED-style talks, inspirational stories, socializing over coffee and cake and activities for children. SASV focuses on purpose and action. It supports local nonprofits through hands-on help and donations. The organization offers “smoups,” small activity groups that gather around member interests, including outdoor activities, book reading, crafts, self-improvement and beer tasting. On site parking is free.

Are you a participant in the Internet of Things? You are if you use a Fitbit, a smart watch, a GPS, Pandora, a smart thermostat, a tracking tag for keys, or any kind of wearable technology. The future will present us with unimaginable new tools and toys with which to use and play. What do we embrace? How do we choose? Where do we spend our dollars? How will the earth’s electronic skin impact us?

In 2014, the term “Internet of Things” began making headlines, after analysts predicted that the number of wireless-connected devices would exceed 40 billion and create a market exceeding $7 trillion. Silicon Valley has seen enormous numbers of IoT startups, and the news continues to be full of IoT stories. Some are real, some are hype, but one thing is certain – IoT is changing our lives.

This month’s talk, “The Internet of Things – Tools and Toys to Change Your Life,” is presented by David Witkowski, principal consultant of Oku Solutions. Witkowski is president of the nonprofit, Wireless Communications Alliance, advises the Carnegie Institute of Technology Dean’s Council, and is a Joint Venture Silicon Valley Wireless Communications Initiative committee member. Witkowski will present the landscape of what will come for a 2015 filled with IoT.

The Assembly program includes a pop-song sing-a-long with the Lovely Hearts Club Band and children’s activities. Afterward, everyone is invited for coffee, tea and cake.

Please note, this month’s program has been rescheduled to January 18, 2015 (previously scheduled for 1/11/15).
