Swap-O-Rama-Rama is a nonprofit community clothing swap with a do-it-yourself workshop in which attendees explore the process of reuse and collective creativity together.

Every third Saturday of the month (except for May when they’re at the Maker Faire), they host a meetup where they encourage beginners to experts alike to come, bring clothes and ideas, and swap it like it’s hot. Share and learn ideas of how to repurpose anything and everything into clothing, home decor, and beyond.

Holey Shirt (Reverse Appliqué) | Cancelled: “Swap-O-Rama-Rama” DIY Workshop & Clothing Swap | Oakland

The March DIY project is Holey Shirt (Reverse Appliqué) and it begins at 2 pm sharp.

Spring is on the way, so break out those torn, stained and even too-small T-shirts (or other jersey clothing) and let’s modify them into something cool for the sunny season. “Reverse appliqué” is a machine or hand sewing technique that involves cutting a window in one shirt and sewing contrasting fabric on back showing through. You can transplant graphics from one T-shirt to another or even create new silhouettes of your own.

For this project, please bring

1. T-shirt that fits you well, or other jersey clothing – Eliminate unwanted holes and stains.
2. T-shirt or other jersey fabric to use as accent… or search the Swap.
3. Clothing to swap – men, women, children, all sizes
4. T-shirts to swap – with cool graphics especially
5. We’ll supply: Sewing machines, thread, tools, scissors, etc.

All are welcome, but children must be supervised at all times.
