The Lit Slam: Page Meets Stage Poetry | SF

The Lit Slam is a monthly, live performance-based poetry anthology that tries to find the best art at the intersection of page and stage, mixing local and national touring poets.
Every third Monday, it’s a poetry competition with a twist. Editors are chosen at random from the audience before each show, and those editors decide which poets and poems will appear in Tandem, the annual publication created over the course of the season.
The Lit Slam presents the devastating and insightful Arisa White, co-editor for Her Kind, an online literary community powered by VIDA, editorial manager at Dance Studio Life magazine, and a native New Yorker, poet, playwright, and writing instructor living in Oakland.
Arisa White is a Cave Canem fellow, an MFA graduate from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and is the author of the chapbooks Disposition for Shininess and Post Pardon (which is being made into an opera), as well as the full-length collections Hurrah’s Nest and A Penny Saved. Her debut collection, Hurrah’s Nest, won the 2012 San Francisco Book Festival Award for poetry and was nominated for a 44th NAACP Image Award, the 82nd California Book Awards, and the 2013 Wheatley Book Awards.
Please Note: The venue for The Lit Slam is now at The Shelton Theatre at 533 Sutter Street near Union Square, and not at Viracocha.
