Underground Film Night: Obscure Super 8 & 16mm Movies | Berkeley

The Berkeley Underground Film Society (BUFS) is an all ages club for collectors, researchers, and film enthusiasts in the East Bay and San Francisco area.

Their goal is to review and share a selective film history of movies on film.

Every Sunday, they screen buried, rarely projected, or otherwise obscure 8mm, Super 8, and 16mm prints from their collection.

The Shakers: Hands to Work, Hearts to God is Ken Burns’s second film, released in 1984. Narrated by David McCullough, this hour-long documentary features interviews with several living Shakers and with historians and philosophers.

Ken Burns has said that he chose the topic of the Shakers in large part because his first project, Brooklyn Bridge, was devoted to urban American history; Shakerism offered him an opportunity to explore rural American history.
