Event Details

The U.S.S. San Francisco is a symbol of courage and sacrifice during World War II. Despite known risks, its Admiral steered the massive ship into harm’s way in the Battle of Guadalcanal to save unprotected Marines. Braving both air and sea attacks, the massive ship and its crew endured 45 hits, resulting in more than 100 deaths, and another 100 injured individuals.

On Sunday, May 29, San Franciscans will pause to salute the entire crew of the USS San Francisco (CA-38) — remembering the more than 100 individuals who lost their lives in the WW2 naval battle at Guadalcanal (November 12 & 13, 1942) and saluting its remaining living survivors.
