Cancelled – YBCA:ConVerge Monthly Art Gathering | SoMa

Please Note: The specific ConVerge series is no longer taking place at the YBCA, but we encourage you to still come out to the Yerba Buena district every 3rd Thursday for special events at YBCA and neighboring museums.

The YBCA:ConVerge series is a free monthly public gathering featuring creative and generative social art practices.

Community and innovative multi- and inter-disciplinary arts practices come together in the YBCA’s Grand Lobby and Room for Big Ideas with art, live music and curated performances in an interactive, experimental format. Cocktails are available for purchase.

September’s Converge presents Prototyping Our City, an event featuring activities led by artists and designers from the Prototyping: Place projects in our Front Door Gallery and Grand Lobby. The evening will be led by designers of featured prototypes from the Spring 2015 iteration of the Market Street Prototyping Festival, whose interactive models and installations were aimed at bringing people together to make our city more inclusive and engaging.

5 PM BookmarkSF Workshop
Rain Chan-Kalin and Ian Deck, designers of the BookmarkSF prototype, will ask you to put your experiences to paper in a bookmark making workshop from 5-8 PM.

5:30 PM Guided gallery tour, Downstairs Galleries
A YBCA Gallery Guide will lead a 30-minute tour of one of our current exhibitions. Meet at the downstairs gallery entrance.

6:00 PM The Sound of Emotion
Take Your Prototyping Project from the Idea Phase to the Streets!
Join us as Paul Pillitteri discusses his prototyping project, The Sound of Emotion, one of the most technologically sophisticated projects entered in the 2015 SF Prototyping Festival.

6:45 PM Smaller and Upside Down
Participants will be able to use and learn about custom 3D printed lenses in prototype Smaller and Upside Down. These lenses transform everyday images in developing a new experience of self, others and environment. Explore the design and fabrication techniques of the world of funky optics.
