Bernal Heights Park | Folsom Street and Bernal Heights Boulevard, San Francisco, CA
Submitted by the Event Organizer
Watch the Embarcado fireworks from afar and then watch up close as Bernal residents send off sky lanterns into the night sky to celebrate New Year’s Eve on December 31, 2012.
A group of Bernalites will be making Sky Lanterns (mini Hot Air Balloons with candles inside) from biodegradable materials and then launching them from atop Bernal Hill at midnight.
They’ll decorate the lanterns with art, hopes, fears, resolutions, dreams, and dares and head up the hill around 11pm and their balloons afloat, keeping them anchored with twine.
When the clock strikes midnight and the fireworks go off around the bay (you should be able to see from the hill), they’ll snip the anchor lines and send their sky lanterns into the night.
>> Please note that this event may be dependent on the weather and the details/times/exact location on Bernal Hill may change.
Also, this is an event put on by residents so they may change their plans without notifying Funcheap. So if you do decide to go to Bernal hill, please be prepared in case this event does not take place and just enjoy the serene view of the fireworks.
