Join the annual Bay Area Classic Yo-Yo Contest in Golden Gate Park to enjoy the sun, learn to yo-yo, and be witness to some of the world’s best players as they compete in the yo-yo championship in Spreckels Temple of Music Bandshell.
Over 100 of the top yo-yo competitors on the west coast will gather in the park to test their skill, swap tricks, pick up the latest gear, and compete for cash and prizes.
Want to try your hand at some yo-yo tricks?
The yo-yo vendors and experts at the Bay Area Classic are usually willing to give you free yo-yo lessons and teach you a few tricks, if you just ask. Bring your own yo-yo if you got it, but there’s usually a few loaners about and there’s also some cheap beginner yo-yo kits for sale.
Watch yo-yo expert Yuuki Spencer’s physics-defying tricks as he performs a demonstration at a past event.
Kick it in Japantown Peace Plaza in San Francisco on Sunday, May 25, 2014 to watch, meet and learn from some of the Bay Area’s top yo-yo tricksters.
In past years, the gathering has begun around 1 pm. This is an informal event, so there’s no competition, but when you put a bunch of yo-yo experts together in one place, you’re bound to see trick swapping.
BYOB and BYOYOYO – though there are usually some loaners to spare, if you want to give some tricks a try.
Please Note: Typically Sunday Funday is held in Dolores Park, but in 2014 the park is under construction, so there won’t be a free BBQ in the park.
