45th Annual “Carnaval SF” 2023 Cannabis Garden, LGBTQ Stage, Dancers & Lowriders (May 27 – 28)

Hundreds of Dancers, Drummers, Musicians and More Return to San Francisco’s Mission District in Celebration of 45 Years of Music & Movement.

Festival to Include Community-Led, Permitted Cannabis Garden and LGBTQ Stage

Carnaval San Francisco — the annual, free, two-day festival and grand parade drawing thousands of attendees and featuring international music, dance, arts & crafts and cuisine — continues its celebratory traditions at the 45th annual event, themed “45 Years of Music & Movement” taking place Memorial Day weekend, May 27 and 28, 2023 in San Francisco’s Calle 24 Latino Cultural District. This year’s festival will include a community-led, permitted cannabis garden and LGBTQ stage.

Throughout the weekend, hundreds of Carnaval San Francisco artists will transform the district into an enormous celebration featuring music, dance, brilliant costumes and delicious food from Brazil, Mexico, Bolivia, Colombia, Trinidad, Tobago, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Guatemala, Africa, Chile, Haiti and more.

The event’s 2023 theme, “45 Years of Music & Movement” was chosen to pay homage to the artists that have shaped our multicultural and multigenerational celebration.

THE GRAND PARADE – May 28, 2023 | Begins at 9:30 am

Our Grand Parade boasts a 60–contingent lineup, with over 3,000 artists representing the cultural heritages of Brazil, Mexico, Panama, Bolivia, Cuba, Peru, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, Colombia, Trinidad & Tobago, Guatemala, El Salvador, and more to participate, televised by CBS. The Grand Parade covers 20 blocks in San Francisco’s historic Latino Cultural District in the Mission.

FREE TWO–DAY FESTIVAL – May 27-28, 2023 | 10am – 6pm

Our free, two–day Festival covers 17 blocks in the Mission District, with five main stages, 50 local performing artists, and 400 vendors. The festival includes international food, dancing, sampling sites and entertainment for families, couples and friends of all ethnic, social and economic backgrounds.

In the 43–year history of our Festival, we have welcomed luminaries like Celia Cruz, SANTANA, the Neville Brothers, Tito Puentes, Luis Enrique, Poncho Sanchez, Los Lonely Boys, Oscar D’León, INDIA, and Los Tigres del Norte. The two-day celebration is a cultural explosion with free admission for the community. With an attendance rate of over 400,000 people every year, Carnaval San Francisco is the largest multicultural celebration in California.
