Thanks to ABC7 for letting us know that an adorable 8-month-old sea lion pup was rescued by Oakland CHP near the Bay Bridge last week.

Officers found “Elio” on the roadway near the toll plaza and pulled him to safety. Elio was then transferred to The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito for care. The Center says he had been separated from his mother and dehydrated. He was fed “fish smoothie” and will soon be eating full herring with the goal of a full recovery and a return to the wild.

If You Find an “Elio” What Should You Do?
If you come across a marine animal like Elio in distress, you should keep safe distance and call The Marine Mammal Center’s 24-hour rescue hotline at 415-289-SEAL (7325).
