Haunted Houses in the Bay Area

Get spooked on the cheap this Halloween at one of these Community-run haunted houses

Professional haunted houses can be pretty expensive for just a few minutes of fun. But community haunted houses offer a cheaper alternative with, arguably, a little less polish.

Some of the community haunted houses have a largely younger audience in the early evening hours, but also offer later operating hours for teens and adults.

2010 Bay Area Community Haunted Houses – $8 or less

Fear Oaks Haunting Experience (SF)
The Young People’s Teen Musical Theatre Company creates 800 square feet of scary haunted fun. Featuring Thriller performances at 7:15pm Friday-Saturday, and 6:45pm and 9:15pm on Sunday.

The Haunted School (Oakland)
The Arts Management Department of Oakland School for the Arts presents The Haunted School, a creepily different school tour. It’s the first day in a new school – in a building set upon the remains of a terrifying, dark secret. Enter the twisted reality of The Haunted School.

Piedmont Haunted House
Take a trip through Piedmont’s own haunt, where the regular assortment of phantoms have been scared away by a Zombie invasion!

Alameda Teen Haunted House
Have a spook-tacular time at Alameda’s haunted house, brought to you by Alameda Teens.

Hauntatorium (Richmond)
Prepare yourself as classic monsters and aliens creep from the basement and impose their malicious intent on those brave enough to wander into the Hauntatorium.

Hercules Halloween Haunted House
The Teen Youth Council of Hercules puts on a one-of-a-kind haunted house for the community.

CIFF Haunted House (Moraga)
The California Independent Film Festival Haunted House takes place at the New Rheem Theatre in Moraga. This is the perfect place for a haunt that will have a taste of all the scary movies you love. Don’t miss the claustrophobia chamber and the other nightmare rooms.
– $8 – Oct. 22-23 and 28-31, 2010, 7pm-11pm (open until midnight on Halloween)

Hayward Halloween Haunted House
Hayward’s Matt Jimenez Community Center is transformed into a scary place. Experience a night of ghosts and spooks in a fun environment.

The Haunted Plaza (Concord)

Concord Cascade Haunted House
Come in, look around, see what you think of the Concord Cascade Haunted House, a well-done haunt filled with actors and full of surprises.

Legends of the Dark Path Haunted House (Pleasant Hill)
The Pleasant Hill Teen Council presents its annual Haunted House.
