The Terminator (1984)

“In the Year of Darkness, 2029, the rulers of this planet devised the ultimate plan. They would reshape the Future by changing the Past. The plan required something that felt no pity. No pain. No fear. Something unstoppable. They created The Terminator.”

A cyborg sent from a post-apocalyptic America back to 1984 to assassinate a young waitress named Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), the Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is relentless and seemingly indestructable. All that stands in its way is Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn), a resistance soldier from the future whose mission is to protect Sarah Connor at all costs.

This is the film that established director James Cameron as a master of action and special effects, while turning Arnold Schwarzenegger into the pumped-up star of the 1980s. Schwarzenegger’s physical presence and sparse dialogue rendered him both chilling and charismatic, and his “I’ll be back” catch phrase still resonates over three decades later. This is the very first of The Terminator films.
