Event Details

The Athena Project invites Fruitvale community members to join the Art Walk, an interpretative stroll through the most diverse neighborhood in Oakland.

The Students and Fruitvale community members will walk from Paseo de la Fuente in the Fruitvale Bart Transit Village, where a mural designed by the students hangs, to Peralta Hacienda Historical Park. Art by Arise high school students will adorn the pathway. The Art Walk will connect Fruitvale’s transit hub to Peralta Hacienda, the birthplace of Oakland.

Every spring, the Athena Project immerses California College of the Arts (CCA) students in the contemporary cultural mix of the exciting and multiethnic neighborhood of Fruitvale, where they mentor local youth.
This year CCA students are mentoring Arise High School students, whose personal stories will be displayed all along the route of the Art Walk, accompanied by stories of the Peralta rancho. Friends of Peralta Hacienda Historical Park, National Park Service Anza National Trail, Arise high school and CCA Athena Project Engage Studio are partnering in the project.

We cordially invite all art and history lovers to participate on the Art Walk to explore Fruitvale’s pathway to history and stories of the community today!
