Come have fun on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 5-8pm on 19th Street (between Market Street and Caselli Avenue) with a short program at 6pm. Our free neighborhood street party celebrates the iconic Upper Market Mural “Chant of the Earth, Voice of the Land.” Originally painted in 1981, the mural has been restored three times by the original artist, Betsie Miller-Kusz. For the two years, Miller-Kusz has worked with a team of expert assistants and local volunteers, drawing upon significant support from the community. The restoration was made possible with a $25,000 grant from the SF Arts Commission, but atmospheric rivers, graffiti and other challenges have required additional fundraising: please donate to help us pay for restoration. We’ll have music, performers, and our neighbors are encouraged to bring tasty snacks to share. Our party is a special stop on the route for the monthly first-Friday Castro Art Walk, so invite your friends and make an evening of it.
