In honor of Cal’s football season opener at AT&T Park, come watch freezing cold history in the making at the first ever official McCovey Cove Water Polo match at AT&T Park as the UC Berkeley Cal Alumni Water Polo Players battle The Olympic Club Water Polo Team on September 17, 2011 at 1:00pm
As in regulation play, there will be a full 25 yard course with two goals, four 10 minute quarters of play, a shot clock, a scoreboard, numerous wetsuits, and a referee stationed on a speed boat to officiate.
About The Teams: Schools represented in the game will be UCLA, Santa Clara, UC Davis, UCSB, UC Berkeley, USC. San Francisco’s Olympic Club water polo commissioners will be playing as well. Twelve players participating in the game have won an NCAA Championship. Five players are former USA National Team Members.
Best Places to Watch: McCovey Cove is just outside of the right filed at AT&T Park, near 24 Willie Mays Plaza on the Embarcadero. You can watch the game along the promenade behind the stadium or from China Basin Park (just south of the cove). Although tickets are required for the football game, the water polo match is free and open to the public.
